2025 GAMMA Applied Survey Research Workshop

This 3-hour workshop is designed to enable PhD students and early career researchers to conduct survey research that meets the quality standards of refereed academic journals. It aims at (1) familiarizing participants with key issues in designing surveys such as measurement (e.g., when to choose single items over multi-item scales), questionnaire design (e.g., how to design engaging surveys and experiments), and potential validity threats (e.g., how to reduce and detect careless responding behavior), as well as (2) equipping them with the necessary practical skills to implement and execute surveys efficiently (e.g., how to use filters and loops to design dynamic questionnaires). The emphasis of this course is on best practices, experience-based insights, and practical skills that are not conveyed by conventional textbooks.
Prerequisites:
Prior knowledge about survey research is not necessary.

- Adopting and adapting measurement instruments
- Designing questionnaires that engage respondents
- Safeguarding validity
• Pretesting surveys effectively
• Choosing the right panel provider
• Documenting the data collection
• Cleaning and preparing data for analysis
Instructor
Timo Mandler is an Associate Professor of Marketing & International Business at TBS Education, France. His research focuses on contemporary marketing challenges in the context of globalization and digitalization. Accordingly, his work is characterized by an international perspective, a combination of primary and secondary data, and rigorous analytical methods. His work has been published in the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Marketing, International Marketing Review, among other journals.
